Moon Knight is the newest Marvel series, premiering towards the end of March 2022. The series contains Oscar Isaac’s first appearance as the superhero Moon Knight, who will make his MCU debut.
Moon Knight follows Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac), a mercenary suffering from a dissociative identity disorder. Khonsu, the Egyptian moon god, later became known as the Moon Knight, and she became his host.
In comparison to other Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man and Iron Man, Moon Knight is a relatively unknown figure. This character is skilled in self-defense and the use of weapons. Nonetheless, Moon Knight remains one of Marvel’s most formidable characters.

1. No connection with the current MCU story
The character Moon Knight first appeared in the 32nd edition of the Marvel comic titled Werewolf by Night, published in 1975.
In the comic, Marc Spector, alias Steven Grant, is a former marine and CIA agent who becomes a hit man.
Producer Grant Curtis revealed the series will have no connection with the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it will feature new characters.
2. A mercenary who follows the gods of ancient Egypt

Despite his debut as a werewolf hunter, Marc Spector’s main profession before becoming a Marvel superhero was mercenary. Initially, Marc never hesitated to kill anyone the person who had hired his services wanted. However, one day Marc is hired by someone who wants to take the treasures of Ancient Egypt and kill all the residents in the location.
Marc didn’t want to do what his tenants wanted, which then killed him because he was killed while protecting the residents. It was at this moment that the figure of an Ancient Egyptian god named Khonshu revived Marc and saved his life. The condition is, that Marc must become a follower of Khonshu and allow his body to become the avatar of the Egyptian Moon God.
Marc agreed to these terms which later became his origin as a Moon Knight. Now, Marc is not only good at self-defense and using weapons. You see, with the existence of Khonshu Marc, he has supernatural powers and even seems to be an immortal being because he is often revived by the Egyptian God every time he dies.
3. Have a dissociative personality disorder
After returning from Egypt and gaining strength from Khonshu, Marc Spector creates two new identities to make it easier for him to eradicate evil. The two identities are Steven Grant who is a billionaire and Jake Locksley who works as a taxi driver.
However, it was revealed that Marc Spector actually had a dissociative personality disorder. This then makes him have no memory of when he became one of the two new identities. In fact, in the continuation of the story, Marc has more than two other identities that make him often experience depression.
The issue of dissociative personality disorder is also present in the upcoming Moon Knight series. However, in the first few episodes, Marc only had one alternative identity, namely Steven Grant. Steven’s profession is also quite different from the comic version because in the series Steven is a Londoner who works as an employee of a gift shop at a museum.
4. Directed by an Arab Director
Moon Knight consists of six episodes by three directors, namely Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead.
Mohamed Diab is an Egyptian director and screenwriter who is known for his various works such as Cairo 678 (2010), Amira (2021), and others.
He caught the attention of Marvel Studios after his film Clash opened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.
On different occasions, Diab promised to portray Egypt better than the films or series that have been aired before.
5. Marc Spector mastered the power of the moon
In addition to strength in martial arts, Moon Knight aka Marc Spector also has supernatural powers in the form of the power of the moon. He can strengthen his body to fight by utilizing magic power which is very difficult to defeat.
In fact, he is also able to absorb the power and energy of others in just one touch.
6. Involving several psychiatrists
Moon Knight is actually a series that raises the issue of mental health because the main character has multiple personalities. In working on this series, Marvel Studios collaborated with several psychiatrists to avoid mistakes in interpreting the story.
One of the psychiatrists involved is Dr. Paul Puri, an assistant clinical professor and president of the UCLA Association of Clinical School of Psychiatry.
7. Show Ancient Egyptian Culture
Moon Knight will feature aspects of the supernatural and ancient Egyptian culture that have never been seen in the MCU.
The production team carried out in-depth research and involved Egyptian historians to ensure accuracy in the script, characters, and setting.
Although the series was produced at the Origo Budapest studio, every detail in this series still features a strong Egyptian element, from vehicle license plates to the inscriptions on clothes written in Arabic.
Mohamed Diab said he was pleased to be able to present ancient traditions and modern Egyptian culture in a new and authentic style. He said the picture of Egypt was often misconstrued as it should be in other projects.
